People with cancer need to improve their liver health

The liver is the organ whose job is to eliminate toxins from the body – and if the liver is not able to do its job properly, the result eventually is disease, and very likely cancer. Many herbs can help improve the health of the liver. Sho-saiko-to is a Japanese herbal combination specifically designed to improve liver health.

Kampo is the traditional herbal medicine system of Japan. Sho-saiko-to is a kampo herbal formula for the liver. There is growing interest in these herbal formulas and their potential for cancer patients. Most research has focused on its benefits as an adjuvant therapy with chemotherapy and radiation. Studies show clear survival benefits for those taking kampo herbal combinations such as Sho-saiko-to (the largest selling of these preparations). However, given their proven benefits for the liver, many people are taking Sho-saiko-to as part of an overall herbal anti-cancer strategy irrespective of  whether or not they are having chemo.

Sho-saiko-to’s ingredients are: Bupleurum root (Bupleurum chinense), Pinellia tuber     (Pinellia tuberifera), Scutellaria root (Scutellaria baicalensis–also known as Baikal skullcap), Jujube fruit (Zizyphus jujuba), Ginseng root (Panax ginseng), Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza uralensis), and Ginger root (Zingiber officinale).

Recommended dosage:  7.5 grams of the formula.

The Japanese government regulates preparation of these formulations very tightly and their quality is considered to be very high.
